LinkedIn Cover Photo Template and Tips

LinkedIn Cover Photo TemplateA little while ago LinkedIn Cover Photos were introduced to personal profiles and since then I’ve been meaning to create a template.

Today was the day. A call from a client asking about a custom graphic for his profile was all I needed. The whole reason I create these templates is because they make the task of branding a business on multiple social media sites so much easier!

Nothing beats a consistent look and feel across all your business profiles and with our templates (Twitter & Triberr) you can be sure your designs will display correctly or, optimally on each social network.

LinkedIn Cover Photo Dimensions

LinkedIn Cover Photo size 1400 by 425If you haven’t already uploaded a photo, you will see that LinkedIn is clear on the size they want you to use for your graphic. 1400 x 425 pixels is what they recommend, although you can use images that are between 1000 X 425 and 4000 X 4000.

Designing for Multiple Screen Sizes

LinkedIn background picture on different size screensSeems easy right? Just create a cover photo that’s 1400×425 and you’re done! Not exactly… Your background image changes size and gets cropped differently depending on the size of your screen/browser… with part of your profile and the LinkedIn interface blocking a large part of the image, you have to make sure your logo or the focus of your design is placed just right so it will be visible all or most of the time.

One other annoying thing to consider is the semi transparent overlay they put at the top of your background image so they can sell or promote things to you. It hasn’t always been there and hopefully it’s not a permanent “feature” but It does cover a lot of space. It would be nice if we could close or hide it right?

Download The Templates and Get Creative!

template in developmentAs you can see from the screenshot, when you eliminate all the areas that get cropped or covered up, you don’t end up with much “safe” space for your design. So, to help you out I’ve created three templates for you to download and use to fit your own purposes.

One for small screens, one for large HD monitors and one that’s a combination of the two. They are transparent PNG files so you should be able to import them into your favorite graphics program without a problem. Small Screen View – This template includes a screenshot of a LinkedIn profile when the screen is about as small as you can get without having to scroll left to right to see the website.
